Abstract
External and intracardiac signals of electrical activity of the specific atrioventricular conduction pathways have been simultaneously recorded with unipolar leads. The amplifiers used had special characteristics: high gain settings (up to 5 x 106), very low noise levels and wide filter range, from 1 to 1000 Hz with 3 dB. The conventional bipolar His bundle electrogram and the classical ECG signal had also been recorded for reference. In order to compare comparable signals, the four simultaneously recorded signals have been averaged, according to the same method, and triggered by the same very accurate trigger. The tracings obtained demonstrate not only a strong correlation for temporal relationships of the events recorded within the P-R segment to the onset of the ventricular depolarization, but also a good correlation between the morphology of the external signal and at least one of the two unipolar intracardiac electrograms (which can be recorded from a conventional bipolar lead catheter).
