Sharing data as soon as possible is one of the keys to fostering discoveries in biomedical research, says Elizabeth Nabel, Director of the NHLBI at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In the past, individuals conducting research kept their results to themselves, particularly until they published.
Those days also saw much of research being conducted by a single investigator in his or her own laboratory, in a solitary silo.
