The National Institute of Health is a leading agency in US Medicine and Research. Dr Elizabeth Nabel, MD, Director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the NIH talks with Jennifer Taylor of her hopes for the future.

Sharing data as soon as possible is one of the keys to fostering discoveries in biomedical research, says Elizabeth Nabel, Director of the NHLBI at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). ‘In the past, individuals conducting research kept their results to themselves, particularly until they published.’

Those days also saw much of research being conducted by a single investigator in his or her own laboratory, in a solitary silo. But given the changes in technology and the new scientific tools that are now available, much more science is being conducted by multidisciplinary teams where individuals bring their own respective talents and training experiences to the scientific table and conduct . . .
