We appreciate the detailed description of potential mechanisms that may link blood pressure and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Similar pathophysiological pathways were mentioned in the discussion section of our article1 and have been the focus of our prior work.26 We agree that proteomics and gene expression studies could be helpful techniques in this regard. However, the main goal of our work was to assess the relationship between blood pressure and incident type 2 diabetes from a clinical perspective. Quantification of the magnitude of the association of increasing blood pressure levels with risk of developing type 2 diabetes is a helpful message for clinicians in day-to-day practice.
